St Thomas’s Place is a development in Old Ruttington Lane, Canterbury of eight town houses and six 2-bedroom apartments. St Thomas’s Place lies on the edge of the historic City and is close to all the amenities that Canterbury has to offer. It is within walking distance of Canterbury West railway station, which offers a regular high speed rail service to and from London and is also well located to the campus of Canterbury Christ Church University, which is sited in the adjoining North Holmes Road. The development is arranged in the form of a terrace wrapping around the edge of the site.

The 6 apartments are sited fronting Military Road and turn the corner. They are arranged in a single building with 3 apartments either side of a centrally positioned staircase. As it faces Military Road the building will be 2-storeys in height with room in the roof, with the elevation broken by two vertical gable elements. On the corner, the building will be 3-storeys in height, with the third storey having clerestory windows forming a horizontal feature. At ground floor the building is set back behind a low brick wall, which provides a degree of privacy to Unit 1, which also has a rear garden.

The materials to be used on the elevation to the apartment building will be a part red brick and part tile hanging with the roof covered in a plain clay tile. 

Units 7 to 12 form a terrace of houses that front onto an adjoining park and overlook the grounds of St Thomas’s School. They have shallow front gardens that are enclosed by traditional metal railings behind a deep planting bed and are accessed by a brick path leading to the front door. As part of the scheme the adjoining park will be re-landscaped and re-modelled.

A development in St Peter’s Lane, Canterbury of nine town houses and two 2-bedroom apartments. Arranged in the form of a terrace with each house having a shallow front garden separated from the pavement by a low wall. The front elevation is traditionally detailed as a Georgian terrace and three storeys in height with a parapet and a steeply pitched slate roof. 

The design of the rear has a more contemporary feel with double glazed powder coated aluminium windows and a patinated zinc cladding to the second floor.

Internally each home has a contemporary styling with spaces designed to be open, light and airy. These spaces are finished to a high standard with an outstanding internal specification.

38 New Dover Road is a development of 16 new apartments, the architectural inspiration for which is the large three storey elevation Victorian villas in the vicinity. The elevations are finished in red stock bricks with stone window surrounds and stone string courses. The windows are generally of casement design. The main entranceway and a number of the windows are surmounted by rubbed brick arches with decorative keystone. The roof is covered in plain clay tiles with Victorian ridge and verge detailing with large Victorian style chimneys.

Wellington Gate is a mews development that comprises a mix of houses and apartments facing onto an internal paved courtyard. The architectural style of the scheme is Kentish vernacular, using the pallet of traditional materials found in the local area – brick, tile hanging, painted brickwork and weather boarding. When finished the scheme was commended by the Hythe Civic Society for the contribution it makes to the appearance of the town and 10 years later you can see that this Award was a worthy one.

It was predominantly a new build scheme but incorporated three existing Victorian warehouses which were successfully converted into loft style houses. Westside Apartments is a conversion of a former 1960’s office building to provide thirteen contemporary apartments close to Canterbury’s West Station. The building was completely refurbished and re-clad in a terracotta tile rain screen system that has a similar colour to the traditional Kent peg tile found locally. The conversion retained the building’s “modern movement” architectural style but the changes ensured that it is referenced to its surroundings in a way that the original never was.

The Terrace is a mixed scheme of 19 houses and 12 apartments sited in a seaside location adjoining the beach in Hythe. Positioned on a corner plot, it comprised terraced development fronting onto the adjoining road and a 4 storey apartment building on the corner. Access to the development was provided by a private drive off which the car parking was arranged.
